The Suhl Weapons Museum offers its visitors a unique insight into the almost 600-year history of handgun production in Suhl on a tour over three floors.

By dividing the museum into five core areas: "World of Weapons", "Home of the Gunsmiths", "Hunting Weapons", "Sports Weapons" and "Military Weapons", visitors are provided with comprehensive information, but can also gain in-depth, specialist details.

The weapons museum in Suhl is located in the former malt house, a building that was built in 1668 in the half-timbered style of the Franconian-Henneberg region.

After the destruction of the city in 1634, great importance was attached to the restoration of the malt and brewing houses as an important branch of industry in the city. Local materials were used for the construction: sand and stones from the quarry in Suhl-Neundorf and wood from the city forest. The stone basement has a one-story adobe half-timbered building. The functional framework structure has been carried out in accordance with the commercial purpose without any special decorations. Spared from the great city fire of 1753, the house could be used as a malt house until the second half of the 19th century.

With the decline of the community brewery, the growing competition from outside, and the establishment of an industrial brewery in 1883, operations had to be stopped.

In the first half of the 20th century the property was used for residential purposes and after 1945 it housed various municipal facilities. In 1957, some rooms were designed as a small local museum. The entire old malt house has been open to the public as a museum since 1971, the year the Suhl Arms Museum was founded.
