Elm was buried by a landslide on September 11, 1881. Over 100 people lost their lives and around 80 buildings were destroyed. The landslide was triggered by improperly executed slate mining.

Hiking

Elm is the last village in the beautiful Sernftal and has been able to retain its originality to this day. Traditional houses are grouped around the church, many of which are listed buildings. The beautiful mountain world around Elm is a popular destination for nature lovers both in summer and in winter. The former slate factory is now a museum and provides interesting insights into mining.
