In 1949, archaeologists discovered the foundations of one of the oldest churches in Westphalia on a meadow in the courtyard of Meyer, to the Müdehorst in Niederdornberg. The up to one meter wide foundations of quarry stones show a 32 meter long and 10 meter wide hall church with a retracted rectangular choir. According to the description of the life of Waltger von Dornberg founded before 789 AD "in Mudehorst" a Christian community of noble nuns "in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary". At this time, the territory of the pagan Saxons was not yet fully included in the Christian kingdom of Charlemagne.
