Lake Braies has a unique location in the middle of the Braies Dolomites and in the northern part of the Fanes-Sennes-Braies Nature Park. The geological origin of the "Pearl of the Dolomite Lakes", as the emerald green lake is often called, is due to the creation of a dam through a mud flap.

Lake Braies also plays a role in the world of legends, because it was said that you could reach the underground realm of the Fanes by boat. The gateway to the underworld was at the southern end of the lake, where the imposing Seekofel (2,810 m) dominates the lake. It is not for nothing that this summit of the Braies Dolomites, coveted by mountaineers, bears the name "Sass dla Porta", meaning Torberg. Lake Braies is also the starting point for numerous mountain tours in the area and the Dolomite high-altitude trail no. 1 starts here. From the surrounding mountains you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the lake.

The only drawback: the lake is a very popular tourist destination. Visually beautiful, you won't find the tranquility of the mountains here.

Absolutely worth seeing lake, but incredibly overcrowded, best of all, you are there around 6 a.m., then you have the lake almost to yourself.

The Lake Braies, also known as the "Pearl of the Dolomite Lake", is located in a unique location in the middle of the Braies Dolomites.
The Pragsersee lies in the same named Pragser valley, which branches off between Welsberg and Niederdorf of the Pustertal. The geological origin of this mountain lake in the northern part of the Fanes-Sennes-Prags Nature Park is due to the formation of a dam by a Murenabgang. The lake has become known in recent years by the Italian television series "Un passo dal cielo".
The Pragser Wildsee is the starting point for numerous mountain tours in the area. The Dolomite Trail no. 1 also starts here. From the surrounding mountains you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the lake. If you want it more comfortable, the approximately 4 km long Seerunde along the shore is just the thing. And while on a rowboat tour, you can let your mind wander, but only the bravest dare to jump into the cool water during the summer.
