The Tengboche Monastery, built in 1923, is one of the most important pilgrimage sites of Tibetan Buddhism in Nepal. The gompa (temple) and the many prayer flags (translated from the national language after the Tibetan "wind horse") are particularly worth seeing. To the north, the more than 6600m high Thamserku rises - the monastery itself is at a good 3800 meters. In a fire in the late 80s, the plant burned down in large parts - but was subsequently completely restored.
