Battle of Alkmaar in 1573
In 1254 Alkmaar was granted city charter by the Dutch Earl Wilhelm II. But as early as the 11th century, a settlement of traders and peasants was built around a church that belonged to the parish of Heiloo.
The city became the symbol of the Dutch freedom struggle in 1573 and received its motto: "The Victorious", which also appears as a symbol of arms. Alkmaar (German Alkmar) is a city in the province of North Holland, Netherlands. It also includes Oudorp in the north and half of the village Koedijk (see also Langedijk). The population was on January 31, 2019 at 108,582.

Alkmaar is known as the cheese city of the Netherlands, but that title only covers part of what the charming city in the province of North Holland has to offer.
