An episode from the novel has to do with the primeval "bull" figure standing nearby (once placed in the middle of the bridge). Lazarillo gets a painful slap in the face from his master when, with his head pressed against the figure, he wants to hear alleged noises inside the bull - a lesson in not being told anything and in being "smarter than the devil" yourself
