Former Lerche shaft of the Ost mine.

Lerche shaft in the Hamm-Lerche district was a side shaft of the Heinrich-Robert coal mine in Hamm.

Until 1998, waste weather from the Heinrich Robert mine (later Bergwerk Ost) was removed here using a mine fan. There was no shaft scaffolding in that sense at that time, as there was only a bobbin.

With the merger of the Heinrich Robert, Monopol and Haus Aden mines to form the BW Ost, the shaft was converted into a material and cable shaft with moving in and further sunk. With a depth of around 1,400 meters, it was one of the deepest shafts in the Ruhr mining industry.

The main cooling system for mine ventilation at the time at the site, Bergwerk Ost, was one of the largest cooling systems in Europe.

The current headframe originally stood in Werne-Langern and served on the Romberg shaft (Shaft VII), an external shaft of Haus Aden. The shaft structure with its unique design was also popularly known as the “golf club”.

After the Romberg shaft was dropped in 2001, the “golf club” was laboriously dismantled and rebuilt in Lerche.

The shaft has now been filled. It is planned to demolish the facility including the headframe. So take a quick look ☝️😉
