The chapel was built in 1862 from the stones of the old church, which was demolished that year. Baron Clemens August von Nagel-Doornick and Countess Maria Johanna Huberta Stolberg zu Stolberg from the Westheim family, who married on January 14, 1862, had the chapel built. The architect was Emil von Manger from Oelde, who also built the new church. The chapel is reminiscent of the old church on Margarethenplatz, which was built at the end of the 12th century. While the Schürenbrink chapel preserved the Gothic elements, the Marienkapelle on the Dromberg refers to the Romanesque past of the old church.
A former chapel stood where the old Stratmann house is today. After an exchange of land, the new chapel, which is dedicated to Mary, the Mother of God, was able to be built. The coat of arms above the entrance reminds of the donors, the medallions on the altar show their namesake, on the left St. Pope Clement and on the right the Mother of God Maria.

The chapel is right on the route from Oelde Cycles and is very impressive. A dreamlike place to introspect and reflect.
