The community Nortorf and its church suffered severely during the Swedish War from 1643 to 1645. So was u.a. the silver church seal stolen. The church tower was blown over by the storm in 1660 and rebuilt in 1678. In addition, he was struck three times in the period 1707-1783 by lightning. The structurally very battered church suffered in the war of 1813 again serious damage. First of all, requisitioned cows were placed in the chapel, which has since been nicknamed "The Cowshed". After the Battle of Sehestedt, the church served as a hospital for wounded, with everything except the altar, pulpit and organ was destroyed. The recovery dragged on for lack of money over seven years from 1814 to 1821. In 1871 it was decided to demolish the old church building and to build a new one.

Today's church, inaugurated on October 15, 1873, in the center of Nortorf, has J.B. Heyn from Hamburg listed as a three-aisled neo-Gothic brick hall church with a partly consisting of granite blocks west tower. The altar of 1857 and the richly decorated baptism cast by M. Lucas in Husum have been taken from the old church.

Worth seeing church in Nortorf right on the market square.

In the city center on the market square is the neo-Gothic Protestant church building, built in 1872.
