The Freedom Monument, or Brīvības piemineklis, is an impressive sight, especially if you pass by on your running route early in the morning or at dusk. The imposing statue with the female figure raising three stars symbolizes Latvia's freedom and exudes a powerful calm - an inspiring sight that almost automatically makes you walk upright. The area is well-kept, the paths around the monument are wide and offer enough space to jog at your own pace without having to constantly swerve. Here, history meets the modern flow of the city: while the statue offers a moment of reflection, the busy life around it just moves on. This mix is what makes the place so appealing and provides an interesting change on your route.
