The Halifax Citadel National Historic Site sits on the hilltop of Citadel Hill. This location was chosen in 1749 to build a fort to protect the city until 1909. It was strategically very important and rebuilt three times but never attacked. Re-enactors of the 78th Highlanders are walking around the Historic Site offering a open window back in time.
