The church of Son Martegn, first mentioned in 1370 and consecrated in 1677, is known for its historic 12th-century tower and serves as an impressive example of sacred architecture. Inside, the high altar and the unique ceiling fresco “La Gloria del Paradiso” from 1681, which depicts heaven with hierarchically arranged angels and saints, are fascinating. From here you have a wonderful view of the valley and Savognin.

Son Martegn Catholic Church, Savognin
The church dominates the villagescape and is one of the most important baroque churches in Graubünden.
The Son Martegn church in Savognin was consecrated in 1677. In the center of the vault you can see the beautiful ceiling painting "La Gloria del Paradiso".
The current church was consecrated in 1677. It is the third sacred building at this point and dominates the villagescape, particularly impressive when it shines high up in the black night. A flat dome, which is completely painted, rises above the floor plan of a Greek cross. The two Nuvolone brothers create a magnificent picture of the city of the chosen ones. The theme of the over 100m² large painting is the vision of the heavenly Jerusalem. Walls and 12 gates surround the city. This church is one of the most impressive art experiences in Surses because of the ceiling painting. The seven concentric circles create the illusion of a soaring round peak and symbolize paradise.
