Val Belviso is the last valley of the Parco delle Orobie. It is particularly noticeable the characteristic of suspended valley, typical of almost all the valleys of the Park; the lower part is, in fact, made up of a narrow and steep gorge, which gives way to an ever wider "plateau" as it rises to altitude. The vegetation is very dense and consists of wide expanses of spruce, larch and birch.
From the faunistic point of view, the area is particularly rich in ungulates: many are the chamois specimens, which in the summer is easy to observe in the pasture. Even the ibex often makes its appearance in the area of Lake Torena. Numerous lakes of remarkable beauty, including the lakes of Torena, but also Lake Lavazza, (2,131 m), Lake Cima (2,360 m) and that of Pisa (2,446 m). Very characteristic are the two lakes of Torena, the Black Lake (2036 m) and the Green Lake (2073 m). The Black Lake is characterized by the presence of a small island in the middle; on the outcropping boulders in the vicinity of this pond have recently been found rock engravings dating back presumably to around 4/6000 years ago. In Lago Verde, so named for the emerald color of its icy waters, the Torena Torione (2911 m) is mirrored. Val Belviso is also characterized by the presence of an imposing dam, the Frera dam, which forms the artificial lake of Belviso; the dam was built in the 1950s and has a total capacity of over 50 million cubic meters. of water. The tributaries come from the side valleys and from the head of the valley.
