The Stein pumping station was built in 1883 on the Steinse Dijk near Haastrecht (then part of the municipality of Vlist, now Krimpenerwaard) to drain the Stein polder. Designed by L. Exalto, it was equipped with a steam engine and a centrifugal pump from the English manufacturer Gwynne.

Natuurenlandschap. In 1949, the steam engine was replaced by a modern 88kW electric motor from Heemaf, which displaces 41m³ of water per minute.

The Stein pumping station is located on the Steinse dike in the municipality of Vlist. The pumping station was in use from 1883 to 2006.
In 1883, the wind drainage in the Stein polder was replaced by steam drainage. The pumping station was designed by L. Exalto, then 1st supervisor of the Zuidplaspolder. The centrifugal pump, also dating from 1883, is from the English manufacturer Gwynnes. A Heemaf electric motor was used to drive the pump. The pumping station was electrified in 1949.

Stein Pumping Station is a historic pumping station dating from 1883 on the Steinsedijk near Haastrecht, near Gouda. It was built to drain the Stein Polder and was originally steam-powered, later electric. Since 2006, it has been out of use as a main pumping station and now serves only as an emergency pumping station. The building has a monumental appearance and may be transferred to a new manager who wants to preserve its heritage.
