The first mention of the Ginderich Church, built in honor of the Holy Mother of God, who showed herself gracious to the callers there through miraculous signs, was made in 1190 by the Archbishop of Cologne, Anno II. The west tower of this Romanesque-style church was preserved. The choir and nave were demolished in the 14th century.
