The origin of the name of this seaside resort (belonging to the municipality of Muravera) is curious and debated. One version claims that the name derives from the word "Re" which becomes "Costa del Re" (since Cala Regina is also near Cagliari). The second version claims that the name derives from the word "Rei" used to describe the prisoners who populated the nearby penal colony of Castiadas in the 19th century. Regardless of the origin of the name.. it's worth taking a tour!
