The bridge at the origin was Roman, but was washed away in 1620 by a big flood. In August 1622, a wooden bridge was built, but it was also carried by a new flood, which carried a bow and makes it useless. A ferry was installed, but as this was not enough, the original stone bridge was rebuilt. The work lasted seven years (1640-1647).
