The burial mound field covers an area of approximately 20 hectares with a maximum size of 700 by 500 meters and contains around 150 burial mounds of various sizes. Humans were probably first buried here in the Middle Bronze Age around 1600 BC; according to archaeological finds, the site served as a burial site until the Iron Age around 600 BC.
