Train bike train adventures are one of the best ways to explore a new area. Imagine wheeling your bike off a train in a new and unexplored region and pedaling straight into fresh air and green landscapes.

The newly reopened Northumberland Line makes it easier than ever to access quiet country lanes, rolling coastal trails, and historic landmarks, all without the hassle of a long car journey. Whether you’re a weekend explorer, a family looking for a fun day out, or just getting started with cycling, these tried-and-tested train bike train routes are your perfect escape.

The easily accessible routes in this Collection start and end at stations along the Northumberland Line, making planning your adventure a breeze. You’ll ride from Seaton Delaval to the grand Seaton Delaval Hall, cycle from Newsham towards the sandy expanse of South Beach, or explore the charming seaside town of Newbiggin-by-the-Sea from Ashington. Each route is designed for beginner and family cyclists, so they’re suitable for all levels. The terrain is mostly flat or gently rolling, with plenty of rest stops and stunning views at every turn.

The Northumberland Line reopened in December, bringing train services back to the region after six decades. Currently, Ashington, Seaton Delaval, and Newsham stations are open, with more stations set to welcome explorers later in 2025. All trains on the line are bike-friendly, so you can simply roll on board with no need to book ahead. Services operate twice every hour during the day from Monday to Saturday and hourly in the evenings and on Sundays.

So, why not let the train do the hard work? Grab your bike, fill your pockets with snacks, and make the most of a car-free cycling adventure through the best of Northumberland’s glorious countryside.
