When you visit the charming town of Kulmbach in the Franconian Forest in southern Germany, you can expect to experience the combination of a lively town, countryside and rivers in a new way. We’ve put together ten circular walks to introduce you to the region’s peaceful nature and historic towns – there’s a lot to discover in and around Kulmbach.

One of the most well-known hiking trails in the region, the FrankenwaldSteigla, guides you through magical forests, up to scenic heights, and along gushing streams. The signposted route is split into three themes: “Listen to silence”, “Breathe deep”, and “Understanding the forest”. These hikes take you on a journey for all your senses through the most beautiful landscapes in the Franconian Forest. Each route takes around half a day, but you can take your time if you want to spend longer nature.

Whichever trail you choose, a snack break is never far away. Regional delicacies are, after all, an important part of every hiking trip. Along the way, you will stop off in charming little towns which are also the starting points of some of the Tours, discover enchanting valleys, roam imposing fortresses, and visit quaint little chapels.
