One of the best things about cycling is that it can be enjoyed at any age. From the tiniest legs using a balance bike, to granny and grandad showing the kids how it’s done, cycling is a great activity for the whole family. That’s why we’ve put together this bumper list of 21 fantastic family-friendly rides.
Our chosen trails are either flat or only have gentle elevation changes to enable everyone to take part, including young children. We’ve chosen some loops but lots of the trails are linear. This means you can adapt the distance to suit your family’s needs and complete a full out-and-back or simply turn around when you want to.
Car parks, visitor centres, cafes, and facilities are all abundant on most of these rides. We’ve picked traffic-free routes too, so you can focus purely on the birds in the trees, the wind in your hair and what flavour ice cream you might order at the end.
Whether you’re looking for family cycle trails to ride during a holiday or for routes closer to home, check out these wonderful bike rides and we’ll see you out there!
The Afan Valley is famed for its tough mountain biking routes but it’s also home to a wonderful, traffic-free family trail. There are two versions of the Y Rheilffordd trail and we’ve chosen the circular route, which is 10 miles long (16 km).
