Now, let's delve into Udo and Lothar's recent endeavours. Conquering their epic Baltic Sea adventure on their Rennstahl Pinion 853 bikes, their verdict remains unwavering: "It was simply phenomenal!"
“Riding around the Black Sea sounded charming, but we knew it’d be tough. When plotting the route, it said there would be approximately 4,000 kilometres (2,500 mi) to cover. But it was impossible to predict precisely what our journey would entail.
However, we soon dismissed one idea: setting off from our doorstep. Starting from the heart of Bavaria seemed too challenging given the limited seven-week timeframe. Instead, we decided to begin in the marzipan city of Lübeck! And with that decision, our enthusiasm peaked. We were ready for our adventure!
As a passionate cyclocrosser and bikepacker, the famous n+1 formula has always applied to me – no matter how many bikes you own, you could always use one more. It was only a matter of time before I came into contact with Pinion. It might sound corny, but it was love at first ride. After three other bikes, my Pinion was yet another (small) evolutionary step up for me. The gear range of a Pinion is unrivalled on the market and the carefree nature of the Gates belt drive is an invaluable advantage, especially on this long trip around the Baltic Sea.
Lothar, my best buddy since 1971, also rode a Pinion bike without any problems. The C18 version we used is a dream for bike tourers in every respect. The climbs are no longer intimidating, you gain great momentum on the descents and the cross-country rides are a marvellous whirring symphony. To put it bluntly: if you ask about my experience of Pinion, I’d say it’s not just stylish, it's functional and feels great”
