The Württembergische Allgäu is tailor made for cycling. On the horizon, the big mountains are close enough to form a heavenly backdrop to its gentle hills, yet far enough away to ensure that cycling here is never too strenuous. The big inclines are to be admired from afar, rather than suffered. The ADFC (German Cyclist’s Association) recognises a good thing when it sees it, hence why the Württembergische Allgäu is a recommended cycling region. All of this means that you’ll not only discover beautiful routes here, but other cycling amenities too.

Gentle Hills and picturesque river valleys, crystal-clear lakes and mysterious moors, lively old towns and historical castles: there’s plenty to enjoy. In this Collection, we present 12 loops to showcase the diverse and varied experiences the region has to offer. The Hills provide glorious views and the opportunity to gain elevation, while the quiet, asphalted side roads and cycle paths make the ascents pleasant experiences. Only every now and then do you meet a more technical forest or field trail. If the hills are a bit too much for you, an E-Bike will make the ascents more manageable.

This cyclist’s treasure trove is also easily reached by public transport. Places like Wangen and Leutkirch, as well as many of the smaller towns, have train stations. You’ll also find many bike shops and rentals, as well as cyclist-friendly accommodation – everything is taken care of.

On this tour it is worth leaving a little extra space in your panniers. Because the food for the day in the saddle is, so to speak, at the side of the road. You will pass several farm shops and small stands or huts where you can buy apples, jam and sausages directly from the manufacturer.

The Iller is your companion for about a third of this round. The river has shaped the region through which this tour takes you for thousands of years. Even the Celts and the Romans settled here. Later the Iller was an important transport route. Its banks have been cultivated and shaped into the landscape

The focus of this tour is the cultural landscape, which has been shaped by farming for centuries. The starting point in Wolfegg illustrates several facets of this history: the open-air museum in the village shows historic farmhouses and the way of life of the rural population over several centuries

This tour got its name from the Unteren Argen - the river that roughly sets the direction for the first third of this round. The title of this tour can also be easily reversed: joy in the foothills of the Alps. This round through the foothills of the Alps is a real pleasure. And the fabulous views are mainly responsible for this. In many places, the Allgäu Alps present themselves as a bluish chain on the horizon. Switzerland
