You shouldn't believe
The final stage is announced. Departure at 0 degrees. I warm up very quickly because the path goes uphill, through Ruppenmanklitz, under the country road. The town of Lindenberg / Allgäu appears, a beautiful small town. At the end of town, I first write km 5 down the street. This is followed by a scenic part, the only downer is the mirror-smooth sections. Past the forest lake. The hiking trails lead to Allmannsried. This is also the highest point today.Slightly downhill through the Saarland holiday village. Asphalt and forest roads alternate.
Shortly after Lötz the striking and beautifully located Wendelinskapelle, immediately afterwards the scattered settlement Kinberg. On forest roads steeper downhill to Niedetstaufen. The place is hiked through, left into a forest path that leads gently downhill to Loiblach. A beautiful path runs along the river, certainly the most beautiful section on the last day.At the end of the great section, the pilgrim reality awaits me again. Asphalt, a lot of asphalt. For a long time I follow the road, through Schlachters, past a pond, the A96 is crossed.A beautiful path runs along the ridge to a chapel. On the way there, first view of Lake Constance.
An overwhelming sight.Descent via Weißensberg, Oberreutin. The streets lead through the typical Lake Constance apple orchards. Finally I reach Lindau. The destination is the port of Lindau on the island. Now I have reached my goal. 275km and about 3500 vertical meters have brought me here. Happy, satisfied with me but also a little wistful, I look out into the lake.Annoying, I can't even top my success with a beer. Everything closed, such a shit ......

On a day like today, you don't need any special motivation. The sun shines in the blue sky, the birds chirp, the air is clear and pure. Who is not motivated there.Today the "Asphathatscher" is often my guide. Downhill to the country road, follow this right, then uphill to Aigis. After Aigis then a beautiful part, on frozen snow paths to Geratsried. The hard snow is sometimes very slippery.
The snow stays true to me, first downhill into the Jugetbachtal, then uphill again.I cross the small settlement of Trabers, asphalt to Mutten. After the village on the left, now the most beautiful section through the Schwarzenbachtal. Beautiful hiking trails, naturally covered with snow, lead me to Bulfings.Street to Oberstaufen. Actually I would only graze the market, but my caffeine level is already in the critical range, search the whole place for a baker.
What a pleasure that was then.Filled with happiness hormones, the long stretch of asphalt to Genthofen is half as bad. The last notable climb follows.
Descent over hops, the area is very beautiful, one photo after another. The paths for it, not quite like that, again asphalt that leads to Nagelshub, to the right, briefly down from the street, which will soon welcome me again, Simmerberg is crossed, past the orphaned lifts. Then a nice descent to Weiler im Allgäu.Today I strolled a lot, often taking breaks, the weather was just too wonderful.
Tomorrow is the last day, less than 30 kilometers to the goal

I've come up with a completely different plan for the remaining three days.
I want to hike the tour continuously, there are still about 90 km, i.e. I will have to spend two nights, let's see how it works.I reach Kempten by train.
It is still very cool, gloves would actually be appropriate.
The route takes you through Kempten for a long time, and an app like Komoot is very helpful here to get through a larger city precisely.A beautiful path takes me to the Mariaberg and on to Ermengerst.
A fantastic mountain panorama to the south, especially "Der Wächter vom Allgäu".After Ermengerst there is a gravel path, which is also a cycle path to Buchenberg and on through the extensive trees of the Wirlinger Forest.Shortly before leaving the forest, a nice "Rastbankerl" forces me to take a break.
It is now so warm that I let my white legs in the sun. With shorts and t-shirt on, the path leads through Rechtis, followed by the obligatory stretch of road. After Osterhofen right, now the most beautiful part of the day, over mountain ridges with great views it goes up to the Sonneck-Höhe about 1100 m.The old snow fields that have to be crossed every now and then bear well. A wide path leads in bends to Weitnau. In the meantime, my night quarters have been confirmed, I still buy snacks and have to accept 2 kilometers more for it.After Weitnau the path climbs again properly. A wonderful path with almost continuous snow cover leads me on, with the last rays of the sun I reach my destination. It was my most kilometers and highs on the Way of St.

Arrival at -18 degrees to the parking lot shortly after Kranzegg. Pure sunshine, dark blue sky.My first ski tour in years, first of all I can still do it.
The last ascent to the summit is really demanding. It's windy here, the slope is very hard, borderline without crampons. Some turn around at the lift station or continue on foot.
I leave my skis behind for the last 100 meters.
The Grünten summit (1738m) has been reached. It offers a magnificent all-round panorama. The rush at the summit then becomes too much for me.
Except for the ascent to the summit, good snow conditions on the descent.
It was really fun.

The weather should be very good today, that was the weather report from yesterday.
At the start in Marktoberdorf the weather situation looks completely different, not a bit of sun but it's warm.
There is a very strange light in the sky. The shorts and sunscreen that I packed as a precaution remain in their place.
First of all, today is the least interesting part of the tour in terms of landscape.
The start begins with about 4km of road or bike path next to the Marktoberdorf-Kempten federal road. Finally away from the main road.
The panorama gets a good, always great view of the mountains.
I cross Geisenried. The green of the meadows is somehow strange but wonderful. Oberthingau should then be the last place for the next 15km. The first kilometers after the village are also the most beautiful.
The forest roads always go slightly uphill through the Kempter Forest, the area somehow reminds me of the western forests. The Betzigau forest chapel has been reached, and immediately afterwards there are a few kilometers that I didn't expect.
Traces are the order of the day, luckily it only goes up to 20cm deep.
The highest point is exceeded. The snow gives way to green meadows again.
In Betzenried for the first time a view of Kempten, which is also the largest city on the way.
Before going under the A7.
After crossing the Iller I reach the main station.Today it could have gone further.

Contrary to my normal practice of getting to the starting point by public transport, I get on my bike today. It's only 16km.
I complete the route very comfortably so as not to arrive too sweaty at the start of the tour.I follow a road that leads me from Bernbeuren.
Not long then a path branches off to the right and runs through the flint gorge, from my point of view the most beautiful part of the Way of St. James so far.
The Auerbergstraße is crossed and the path follows the Jägersteig.
The highest point is slightly off the path.
As a motivated summit hunter, I will not miss the short detour to the summit of the Auerberg. The small St. George's Church is the highest point on the previous route at 1055 meters. Relatively good view of the flat and mountainous areas. On the descent, you can't believe it, the sun comes out, I immediately take advantage of that and enjoy a 20-minute break on a meadow in the sunshine with a magnificent panorama.
You can only continue with a sweater and thin pants.
The path leads through Stötten, the beautiful hiking trails alternate with "street hawkers", which is known on a Way of St. James.
I reach Bertoldshofen via Burk.
The weather has changed its mind and thinks it has to rain now.
It goes uphill, the Kirchspitze of Marktoberdorf can be seen from afar, the path leads over open fields, where the rain really lashes out.
The goal has been achieved, it was a great day.

Contrary to my normal practice of getting to the starting point by public transport, I get on my bike today. The reason is that the connection is very bad and I only have to cycle 16km. It looks a lot like rain but stays dry.
Up to Stötten it's pretty flat, right after the town the side road climbs up to Sachsenried.
I drive very comfortably so that I don't get to the start of the hike completely sweaty.
The last four kilometers to Bernbeuren only downhill.
February 1, 2021
Today I didn't have a good nose
Right between the dry periods, I went jogging.
That means after about 2km it started to rain, sometimes really hard.
The ground conditions were not ideal either, often still icy sections or slush.
The washing machine gets a lot of work to do.
It was good to be outside again.

The decision of which weekend day I take is made for me. The bus connection on this tour is only possible on Saturdays.
At night and also in the morning it winds and rains with us, on a snowy road to Bernbeuren where I leave my car, by bus via Schongau to the starting point in Rottenbuch.
At the start there was no wind, no more snowfall, actually wonderful. It's steadily uphill, a well-trodden track in the forest, on a hill I cross an open area. If there were any tracks there, the wind covered them with snow, I have to lay the track myself, later it should be much worse.
A short stretch of the country road to Wildsteig, a steep ascent leads to the Church of St. Jakob. The highest point of the day has been reached.
A well-trodden path leads through the Illachmoos, to my shock the track then takes a different course, so again tracks themselves, this time longer and the snow is up to 20cm high.
You can also look forward to forest trails that accompany me to the pilgrimage church of the Scourged Savior on the Wies, usually Wieskirche for short.
When I visited the Wieskirche, I said a quick prayer not to have to leave any traces myself.
The most beautiful part of the day follows, which leads downhill on hiking trails and lo and behold, everything is groomed to Steingaden.
The obligatory “Straßenhatscher” takes me to the Lechsee via Urspring.
A path leads along a beautiful path along the lake, the Lech is crossed at a bridge and Lechbruck is reached.
Slightly uphill to Escherschwang, followed by “Even tracks challenge No. 3” this time knee-deep and even longer, at the end also steeply uphill, maybe I should have lit one more candle. With difficulty I reach Oberlinden.
The last kilometers on the road to Bernbeuren. Exhausted and happy at the day's destination.
