About Luxembourg Outdoors
Originally from Ireland, I’ve lived in Luxembourg for over twenty years… and I still love the place just as much as when I first arrived. Over the years, I’ve walked thousands and thousands of kilometres across this small but varied country, exploring its forests, ridges, castles, river valleys and rock formations with open-mouthed wonder.
Komoot is great, but my website - luxembourgoutdoors.com - is my main way of sharing what I’ve discovered. Please check it out for more photos and personal descriptions of the trails.

Need a digital detox? This trail in the centre of Luxembourg passes by ponds, trees... and not much else. And I mean that in a good way - you can safely put the phone away and partake in the simple joy of putting one foot in front of another in glorious woodland surroundings.

A brutally beautiful cross-border tour with 800m+ of climbing on some of the rockiest terrain in Luxembourg. Spectacular! We started from Beaufort (LU); other starting points could be Dillingen / Grundhof (LU) or Bollendorf (DE).

Well! This was a wonderful surprise! An enjoyable 10 km loop that moves from the quiet streets of Tétange into spectacular, raw Minett scenery. Red earth, mining plateaus, forest paths, striking industrial remnants... All the classic Minett features are right here. Even on a dark, gloomy November afternoon, the variety, information panels and unexpected beauty make this - for me - the very best loop trail in Luxembourg's industrial south.

A peaceful Beaufort loop with quiet woods, castle views, a rarely visited WWII bunker, and the beautiful Haupeschbaach valley. The combination of gentle solitude and classic Mullerthal scenery make this a firm personal favourite of mine, and a go-to trail in times of contemplation and change. Wonderful.

I always forget how soon it gets dark these November days... So no sooner had I arrived at the starting point of the Auto-Pédestre Larochette, I realised that I hadn't enough time to complete it all. No worries: a quick shortcut right at the beginning arguably makes this gorgeous Mullerthal hike even better.

There's really only one reason to hike the AP Mertzig... but it's a good one! Until recently, the whimsical Château de Turelbach was Luxembourg's best-kept secret - the dream and handiwork of one local resident. But that has all changed now, and this Auto-Pédestre takes you right up to this unique castle's front door.

A classic Mullerthal loop linking Consdorf with Mullerthal and the Schiessentümpel waterfall. Expect ten kilometres of almost-unbroken views of forest and impressive rock formations, from its quieter northern section to the livelier southern paths shared with the Mullerthal Trail. A rocky, undulating route that’s tougher than it looks... and all the more rewarding for it.

A wild and varied loop from Boulaide’s “Our Common Heritage” exhibition to the summit of the Houfels rock and beyond. Expect steep climbs, forest solitude, glorious views over the upper Sûre... and moody weather!

A short but unforgettable 3 km walk through the forest near Wiltz, where life-sized wartime images emerge between the ghostly trees. At Schumannseck, the line between past and present feels paper-thin; it's a place where the silence of a traumatic history speaks louder than the guns of war.

A spectacular, hilly trail linking two splendid castles on either side of the River Our. The views are breathtaking, the gradients are high and the section along the "Lätgesbierg" will get your adrenalin pumping!
