After a few tough days, including one day with a 12-hour safari, we have settled into a luxury hotel to recover for 2 nights before flying back. For dinner, of course, we didn't stay at the hotel. We took a walk along the many seafood restaurants and ate at a cozy little place.

In the afternoon a safari was planned and the next day our wedding anniversary. A short walk through this town and a beautiful dress was bought for Mirjam. Even two. Really the kind of town where tourists hardly ever stop. Precisely nice to take a mini walk and step into a shop then.

Anuradhapura is one of the royal cities of Sri Lanka. With its large ancient temples, it is greatly loved by locals and tourists.

Turtles, sharks and plenty of reef fish.
Unfortunately, also a good amount of dead coral. This island is a protected area and you pay 45 dollars to even get into the water here.
It's a shame that some of the money is not used to inform visitors. Many people don't understand what sunscreen does to the coral

The former Dutch Fort Frederick has enormous walls and inside the fort is an enormous kovil (Hindu temple). A bizarre contrast with the bastion where this impressive structure is situated.
Once again a very beautiful temple in a very unique location.

Not a long hike but it had become quite warm by then and the altitude meters add up quickly.
Always nice to see on the descent that others are having an even harder time.

Our driver dropped us off just outside Ella at the start of a path that leads down to the bridge.
Once down there, it would still take a while for the train to arrive, so we looked for a coffee shop. Best cappuccino outside of Italy.

Yesterday afternoon and early this morning I did a safari with a jeep. Recommended but not suitable as a Komoot activity. After all that bumping around in the jeep in Ella, I still took a little tour for lunch.
