One of our favorite hikes in the Ruhr region, and still a personal highlight today, was the sighting of a swallowtail butterfly in a dandelion meadow. What more could you want!

A very nice hike with a holiday feeling, and we chatted with two very nice gentlemen who explained to us a) the redesign of the Emscher River and b) the spoonbills on a pond. It's amazing to see how quickly nature has responded to the newly created areas during the Emscher redesign, creating veritable carpets of wildflowers.
