Lutour Valley

The Lutour valley, of glacial origin, today offers a still wild hiking setting. This will guide you to Lake Estom by following the "black path" (outside the GR) which runs along the Gave du Lutour.

Don't be surprised to come across horses, donkeys, cows and goats in summer. They take advantage of the mountain pastures to add an extra touch of magic to the picture.

Estom Lake

Estom lake is nestled at the bottom of the Lutour valley, under good guard, since the peaks of Estom Soubiran (2,829 m) and Labas (2,946 m) dominate the lake on either side of its shores.

Estom Refuge

The Estom refuge is located at an altitude of 1804 meters, in an idyllic setting, between pine trees and a lake.

In case you come hiking out of season and are looking for shelter in the area, the refuge provides an unguarded but open cabin 200 meters away.
The refuge is a good base for a star-shaped tour over several days. Indeed, from Lake Estom (where the refuge is located) several day routes are possible to get close to the high-altitude lakes and reach 3000 meters.
