Urra Moor

Highlight (Segment) • Natural

The vast expanse of Urra Moor is the highest moorland in the North York Moors National Park. As you hike through the rugged and windswept landscape, you will find it an atmospheric, beautiful and very peaceful place to be, especially when the purple heather blooms in the late summer months.

Captain Cook's Monument on Easby Moor

Highlight • Historical Site

At the 1,063-foot (324 m) peak of Easby Moor, you find a monument to legendary seafarer Captain James Cook. As you hike in this area, imagine a young Cook walking in the exact steps; the tantalising glimpses of the North Sea setting something racing in his heart, no doubt. Today, the monument is a fitting honour to a local hero and you are rewarded with breathtaking views that stretch for miles.

Roseberry Topping Summit

Highlight • Summit

Roseberry Topping erupts proudly from the level landscape of the North York Moors; its dramatic shape inspiring many photographers and painters. It’s a relatively challenging, but manageable, hike to the summit, and you’re treated to spectacular views once there.

Roseberry Topping is known locally as the ‘Yorkshire Matterhorn’ because its shape reminds people of the pyramidal peak that straddles the Swiss and Italian border. There are a few different route options to the top, of varying difficulties.
