View of Framlingham Castle

Set amidst expansive parkland and a charming lake, Framlingham Castle has witnessed fascinating periods of history. The castle is managed by English Heritage and is well worth a visit. Even if you don't stop by, you can admire the views from the roadside – it's a very impressive sight!

Castle Rising Castle

Built around 1138 by William d'Aubigny II, Castle Rising is a beautiful ruined medieval fortification that has witnessed centuries of fascinating history: from hosting royals to functioning as a hunting lodge and even housing a mental patient. In the 14th Century, Queen Isabella lived in the castle after she participated in her husband Edward II's murder.

In 1544, the Howard family became guardians of the castle and they remain the current owners today.

You can visit the castle with its surrounding motte and impressive towers daily from 10am - 6pm (April to November) and 10am - 4pm Wednesday to Sunday in winter. Tickets for adults cost £4.50. You can find more information, here: castlerising.co.uk

Warkworth Castle

Lying atop a steep hilltop above the river Croquet, Warkworth Castle is an impressive fortress with towered walls that remain largely intact. Built in the 12th century, the castle had famous owners such as the Percy family who were one of the most powerful families in the North at the time. Their son 'Harry Hotspur' was a character in Henry IV by Shakespeare.
