Schluchsee Lakeside Beach

Highlight • Beach

Here at Schluchsee is one of my favorite places for swimming.

From the trail on the northern shore of the Schluchsee you have a great view of the glittering in the sun water. When it is calm, the surrounding spruces are reflected in the deep blue water.

Schluchsee Lake Loop

Highlight • Trail

Wonderful hiking trail around the lake with several opportunities to stop for a break.
Particularly recommended: The Unterkrummenhof Vesperstube.

Unterkrummenhof

Highlight • Restaurant

After several visits and the renovation work, we can still recommend the farm: solid food at fair prices. Offers and opening times vary between summer and winter. When the weather is good and there are many hikers, waiting times must be taken into account. Self-service at all tables.

Schluchsee Dam

Highlight • Monument

As perfectly as the Schluchsee fits into the landscape of the Upper Black Forest, you might think that it is a natural lake. The level of the original Schluchsee was around 30 meters below the level of today's lake. It only came into being in its current form through the construction of the dam, which was completed in 1932. Since then, Schluchsee has been the highest dam lake in Germany.

It is also the upper basin of the Häuser pumped storage plant, which in turn is part of the Schluchsee plant group, a sequence of reservoirs between Hausen and Waldshut, which are connected by pumping stations.
