Rittersturz Memorial and Viewpoint

According to legend, in the Middle Ages, a heartbroken knight fell from the rock platform into the depths. At the beginning of the 20th century, the Rittersturz developed into a popular place for excursions. At first there was only a small forest tavern up here, then in the 1920s an elegant hotel was built. However, the hotel was demolished in the late 1970s.

In 1948, the Prime Ministers of the West German federal states met in the hotel and agreed on the merger to form the Federal Republic of Germany. The dark basalt column on the platform is a reminder of this today.
