Heermanns Hut Shelter and Viewpoint

Very nicely made shelter with an interesting forecourt, unfortunately without a barbecue area.

Five Trees Shelter

Highlight • Mountain Hut

A refuge, from which you have a view over the Enz valley and the Black Forest. What is rarely the case with such huts.

A beautiful barbecue area with a semi-open hut and a large meadow.
The place is not far from the Sommerbergbahn and the treetop path and is ideal for a relaxing end to a day of hiking.

At an altitude of up to 20 meters above the forest floor, the 1,250-meter-long path meanders through beech, fir and spruce trees of the imposing mixed mountain forest - past numerous information and experience stations with interesting facts about local natural and animal life.

The highlight of the treetop path on the Sommerberg in Bad Wildbad is an observation tower, which is predominantly made of wood. The entrance to the tower takes place at about 5 m height from the treetop path. At the top of the tower there is an observation platform at about 40 m height, from which one has a great view over the treetops. If you want, you can take the 55-meter-long tunnel slide back down here.

Opening hours: all year round, end of November to beginning of January only on weekends, in winter always closed in a few days. More information: baumwipfelpfad-schwarzwald.de

Admission: adults 9,50 €, children (6 - 14 years) 7,50 €

A great downhill track for MTB riders. And very convenient, because right next to the summer mountain cable car back up 😉

Toboggan Hut Sommerberg Bad Wildbad

Highlight • Mountain Hut

The toboggan hut, now enlarged, was used as accommodation for anti-aircraft observers during World War II, and the hut underwent further interior modifications. In the final years of the war, the toboggan hut served as accommodation for a bombed-out family from Pforzheim. During the occupation, the French occupying forces used the toboggan hut like all other houses on the Sommerberg. In 1947, the Ski Guild was founded within the TSV (only one sports club was allowed to exist, albeit with several divisions), and the toboggan hut was once again available to the Ski Guild "Winter Sports Club."

Since then, the "toboggan hut" has been known only as the Ski Hut. After the construction of the Ski Hut on the ski slope, the toboggan hut was used only by the "youth" but was saved by its transfer to the Black Forest Association. Since this year (1999), the Black Forest Association - Bad Wildbad Local Chapter has taken over the rather dilapidated toboggan hut, a listed building, from the town of Bad Wildbad on a long-term lease. After 90 years of use and in recent years left to decay, the hut is now being expertly restored by members of the Black Forest Association, Bad Wildbad Local Chapter. Interestingly, most of the natural wood has been preserved; although it was installed untreated, it has been remarkably well preserved. The toboggan run, which formerly began at the toboggan hut and is now used as a mountain bike trail in the summer, starts at the "large parking lot" directly next to the entrance. The cross-country ski trails now start just behind the toboggan hut.
