Sicily, day two — chasing the sun southwards. 🚴‍♀️

The sun is shining, and today’s ride is meant to be an easy one. Time to slow down, take a few detours and let the little places along the way surprise us.

We leave Syracuse and head towards Noto, stopping by the sea for a coffee, a simple pleasure that somehow makes us feel even more on holiday.

And then, Noto. A little gem nestled in the Val di Noto, where Baroque beauty seems to spill out of every street. Churches, basilicas, the magnificent cathedral, ornate façades and honey-coloured stone glowing in the sunshine. We wander up and down cobbled streets and grand staircases, where bold Pop Art meets centuries-old architecture as naturally as chocolate melts into ricotta. Different worlds, side by side, each with its own place in the story.

Reluctantly, we leave Noto behind and descend along quiet roads lined with olive trees and artichoke fields, heading towards the Vendicari Nature Reserve.

Here, the ruins of an old tuna fishery stand against the landscape, a reminder of another time, slowly reclaimed by nature. We had hoped to spot flamingos, but they remain elusive today. Some encounters, it seems, are best left for another time.

The final stretch takes us to Marzamemi, a little fishing village with a beautifully kept centre and tiny restaurants and cafés tucked into its streets.

Before sunset, there is just enough time for a dip in its impossibly blue sea.

Another day of quiet roads, unexpected beauty and the simple pleasure of travelling slowly.

Sicily, we’re falling for you a little more with every kilometre. ❤️
