A there and back from Ebley near Stroud that includes a circuit of Haresfield Beacon. The way started with a climb up Doverow Beacon, and then a steady pull onto Maiden Hill. After this the way enters the beautiful National Trust owned Standish Wood, a lot of this route is through Beech woods. Over the top of Haresfield Hill and down steeply past the masts to rejoin the Cotswold Way through Halliday's Wood and contour around the edge of Haresfield Hill. You pass the Cromwell Stone which was erected to commemorate the lifting of the siege of Gloucester in September 1643. Follow the path to reach Haresfield Beacon with it's Trig Point and Ring Hillfort. Contour around Bunkers Bank to another spur which has a fine Topograph that gives information about the panoramic view across South Gloucestershire and the Severn Estuary. Continue contouring around on the escarpment above Standish Park and back into Standish Wood to retrace your steps back to Stroud. On the way back I missed out Doverow Hill keeping to the Cotswold Way and this takes you though a fine vineyard with Grapes waiting to be harvested.
