Bags and tent frozen in morning. Bike computer shows -4°C which feels about right. Fortunately was warm enough. Light the fire again and wait for the sun to come up. Originally thought I would ride to Cranbrook today where I have a place to stay, but I message Melanie, an Instagram follower who reached out some months ago to invite, and say I'll reach Cranbrook tomorrow.
Mostly following the trail, which is scenic and quiet. Pass through town of Fernie (another McDonald's) then ride on towards Kootenay River. There's a campsite here but it's a provincial park and I dont bother asking the warden who passes me in the car and thinks I want a pitch, what the price is. Ride on a shirt distance and cross the river, pulling off into a dry area of pine trees to camp. Lovely spot
