This challenging hiking route in the Sierra de Callosa is a circular route.
Please do not let the minimal distance and the moderate height gain fool you. The Sierra de Callosa is locally known as a beast that needs to be respected and this route is regarded as to be the challenging one.
We start from the parking lot opposite the Redován municipal indoor swimming pool . The destination is Pico del Águila at 568 meters and then onto the Pico del Chinar at 518m. The route climbs 491 meters in a very short distance and is well marked with green/white.
During the ascent, we encounter numerous sections of scrambling where we need to get on all fours. These will be easy for experienced climbers/hikers, but can be dangerous for inexperienced users.
At three points along the route there are steel cables, such as at the Paso del Escalón and the Paso del Mayoral.
Magnificent views and a good feeling at the Pico del Águila await us 😄
From here we cross to the Pico del Chinar (518 m.), following the white and yellow markings of the PR-CV 54 short distance trail .
This section runs along the crest of the mountain range and passes through some areas that will once again have us using our hands. Again, not for the vertigo sufferers..
Fabulous views from this peak as well ⛰️
From here, we start our descent and like the rest of the route, it is quite technical in places. After the most demanding part of the descent, we come to a "bifurcación" and we take the PR-CV 54.3 variant to return, via an easier path, to the starting point.
