The first stretch of Day 2 was a bit cooler, but it turned properly hot again around midday. To avoid tackling the climb to the Tauern road tunnel in that heat, I opted to take the train through the Tauern Railway Tunnel from Spittal instead, heading onward to Bad Gastein.
Lesson learned: If you're using the Tauern Railway Tunnel during peak season, secure your train tickets the day before. I lost over an hour because no tickets were left.
