Peak District is probably one of the most accessible national parks here in England, especially Edale and Hope as the train runs straight through from Sheffield to Manchester. It allows you easy access to the fells by train.

For those Purposeful Adventure I chose the Peak District for our hike. But what is a purposeful adventure? For me, today’s hike was the due to catching up with friends that I hadn’t seen for months and having the hike Public transport accessible so everyone can get to the start of the hike with no issues.

Edale station has no signal so arranging a meeting point before arrival is essential - for us this was the car park entrance, near the public toilets.

Once we all had arrived we set off on our boot shaped hike and headed north straight through the heart of Edale village.
We took a left at the Pennine way official start point to eventually reach the steep. ascent of Crowden Clough. Here you have a couple of options, you can either follow the steep path on the left side to the top or you can head straight up the rocks following the stream for some scrambling. Please do always remember to stay cautious when on uneven terrain.

Once we were at the top we took a short break to have some water and snacks and to look at the cool rock formations.
Due to the recent hot weather the path at the top - on the way to Linder Low was quite dry, however most other times I’ve been up here it is mostly muddy and wet from the peet bogs. I did learn from my friend on this hike about the works that are currently happening the Peak District and other parts of England of trying to rewet the bogs and the importance of it. There’s a massive environmental impact of our bogs staying wet and as much as anyone I don’t like to get wet feet when out on a hike, however learning the importance of bogs in our environment was very interesting and I’d recommend anything to read about it.

Anyhow, we continued our war to Kinder Low before turning and heading back to Edale. Our original plan included Kinder Scout, however we decided against go to save on time and to keep our lovely boot shaped root intact.

The war down was nice and easy. And to be fair the hardest part of this route is the ascent near the start of the hike.

The way back to Edale took us down Jacob’s Ladder and back into Edale, where we stopped at the pub near the station before heading home.

This was a lovely medium hike with friends and in good weather. Couldn’t have asked for a better day!
