We headed out into the awesome three sisters of Glencoe to not only conquer mountains, but also leave this spectacular place better than we found it.
We started our purposeful adventure in the heart of the Glencoe valley, where ample amounts of SUP (single use pollution) could be found thanks to the busy highway.
We then trekked up through the steep mountain valley to find that the majority of the litter was centered around hot spots such as bridges, trail laybys, view points and boulders. The majority of this was, sadly, used werwipes and tissues. Despite this, we were pleasantly surprised at the lack of SUP on such a busy trail within close proximity of a car park.
As we headed higher above the valley, the amount of litter dropped off significantly. What was left to be found above 600m consisted of hiking paraphernalia such as toggles, pole ends, straps etc, of which there was very few. Aside from this, we still managed to encounter the infamous gel end at 8.5km in, and above 1000m.
On this occasion, we resisted the urge to remove every piece of litter we encountered, and instead, opted to fill our pockets, zips and rucksack webbing with whatever we could manage. There was also a great deal of biohazard material out there that we were keen to avoid 💩.
All in all, we manged to bag a full nectarine punnets' worth of trail trash (16 pieces in total), two big summits and one Munro. To top it all off, we rewarded ourselves with a post adventure beer and meal at the Clachaig Inn.
