Tag 41 (1): Bretagne 8 – Finistère

So viele Langzeitradler wie heute habe ich auf dieser Route noch nicht getroffen. Ich stehe und sitze mit ihnen am Straßenrand und wir reden über Routen und Erfahrungen.

Am meisten imponiert mir ein junges lettisches Paar. Seit März unterwegs, und der EuroVelo ist für sie nur der Anfang: Sie wollen nach Afrika übersetzen und bis in den Senegal fahren, die Räder dort verschenken und zurückfliegen. Bisher hatten sie unfassbare Pannen und das am Stück. Erzählt haben sie mir das bestens gelaunt.

Die meisten sind in der Tat auf dem EuroVelo 1 unterwegs, vom Nordkap Richtung Portugal. In Irland und England werde ich ihm auch noch ein gutes Stück folgen. Vor gut einem Jahr bin ich ihn selbst von Portugal bis kurz vor Bordeaux gefahren.

Die Landschaft begeistert mich heute wie gestern: menschenleer, weit, an der Küstenlinie entlang und mit Blick aufs Meer. Am Abend ein guter Platz zum Wildzelten. Diesmal ohne Wildschweine.

🇬🇧 More long-distance cyclists today than anywhere else on this trip. I stand and sit with them at the roadside and we talk routes and experiences. The ones who stay with me are a young Latvian couple. On the road since March, and EuroVelo is only the beginning for them: they want to cross to Africa and ride to Senegal, give the bikes away there and fly home. So far they have had endless breakdowns. They told me all this in the best of moods. Most riders here are on EuroVelo 1, heading from the North Cape towards Portugal; I’ll be following it myself for a good stretch in Ireland and England. A year ago I rode it from Portugal to just short of Bordeaux. The landscape is as good as yesterday: empty, wide, along the coast and looking out to sea. A good wild camping spot in the evening. No boar this time.
