Sunny morning without a single cloud in the sky promises another hot day. I pack my gear onto the bike and set off.

The first part of the route crosses Lake Cerknica, which at this time of year is actually a dry field, with only a few small ponds surrounded by flowers and lush vegetation.

A well-maintained gravel road leads me deeper into the hills, into one of the areas with the highest bear population in this part of Europe. Following the advice of bear experts, I keep talking and singing nonsense to scare away any bears that might be nearby, while secretly hoping to spot one from a safe distance.

I leave the forest without meeting a bear and arrive at a beautiful clearing surrounded by mountains and forests - one of the most beautiful places of the entire bike tour. I stop for a few minutes to enjoy it and take some photos. Then, in the distance, I notice a fox sprinting across the meadow. An incredible sight - such a beautiful and fast animal, wild and true to its nature.
Watching it, I wonder whether my own true nature is wandering through this wilderness. Are we somehow alike, or am I just a visitor here? I continue riding without finding an answer.

Soon I cross the border into Croatia and reach the small town of Prezid. Every house seems to have a bench in front of it, and two elderly ladies are sitting on opposite sides of the street, chatting to each other across the road. A passing car greets everyone with a honk. Seems like a friendly place to live. I stop at the local shop and take a lunch break.

Then comes another highlight of the day - the descent to Čabar, followed by the ride along the Čabranka river and later the Kupa river. Beautiful forests, a crystal-clear river, countless little waterfalls, and moss-covered rocks. I find a perfect spot and enjoy my first swim of the trip. Pure refreshment in the 35 °C heat.

The route continues along the Kupa on a small and peaceful road all the way to today's campsite.

Time to rest, pitch the tent, and feel grateful for another beautiful day and for nature, which today revealed a side of itself I hadn't had the chance to experience for a long time.
