Port Hedland to Point Samson sec 106

Yesterday I arrived in Port Hedland. I must admit, I was not in favor of this place because it's only industrial. However it was the only bigger town before a long stretch of nothing.

I went to the visitor center to get some more information about Karijini National Park and interesting coastal areas. The very friendly lady at the visitor center explained all points of interest and we looked at a map discussing the distances. Eventually it came to a decision: Karijini or coast. I decided for the coast.
Then I asked the lady what's on in Port Hedland. She said that there will be a tour up the tower that does the management of the whole harbor: pilot ships, pilot chopper, tug boats, ships, ore delivery etc.
I decided to join the tour. What a good idea! Besides the fantastic views from the control tower it was interesting how they organized every movement in the harbor, very much like an air traffic controller (pix).
The most of the iron ore comes by train from the BHP mines. Smaller companies use road trains.
I learned that this port is the biggest of its kind in the world (see lay out). Besides ore they are also shipping salt and sometimes other freight as well.

Today at 4.30 am I went into the mess of the compound. There were quite a few people who had to work today and who had breakfast. All the food was included in the price.
After breakfast I put some oil on the chain and hit the road. The harbor area is very congested with dump truck road trains. Pretty scary if there is only a small shoulder on the highway.

The highway led through grassland with some Rock formations. Not very interesting. The only thing that did not fit into the landscape was the crashed Suzuki. The accident Master have happened recently because there were fresh police markings on the road.
Point Samson seems to be a good choice. I have a very nice hotel with a real room.
