Geneva Tourist Day

Now we've finished Stage 1 of the Hexatrek, we treated ourselves to a proper tourist day in Geneva.

One of the best things about staying here was the free Geneva Transport Card, which most hotels provide. It gives you unlimited travel on the trams, buses, trains and even the little yellow taxi boats across the lake. We definitely got our money's worth (well, free money's worth!), hopping on and off everything all day.

First stop was the famous Flower Clock, made from thousands of flowers and a nod to Geneva's watchmaking history. Then up on the Ferris wheel for brilliant views over the city, Lake Geneva and the mountains beyond.

We wandered through the Old Town, exploring its narrow cobbled streets before visiting St. Pierre Cathedral.

Next up was the Jet d'Eau. It fires water 140 metres into the air and was originally created in 1886 as a safety valve for a hydraulic power network, before being moved to its current location and turned into a city landmark.

After that we headed to Eaux-Vives Beach. The water looked so inviting, and it was lovely seeing everyone making the most of the sunshine. We got the boat taxi back over the water and strolled along Quai Wilson promenade, taking in the views across the lake, before finishing at Geneva's beautiful Botanical Gardens, full of colourful flowers, huge trees and peaceful paths.

But the best part of the day were the dogs! There were loads of them swimming in the lake, leaping in after balls and having the absolute time of their lives. I could honestly have watched them all day.
