Saignelégier to Goumois to Le Refrain
Back on the trail at last!
We missed the section between Thann and Goumois because of the heatwave, but today we picked the Hexatrek back up exactly where we should have been according to our original itinerary. With flights already booked, sticking to our timings was important, although it does mean I'll have to come back one day and hike that missing week!
We caught the train to Saignelégier before hiking to Goumois (off the official Hexatrek route), where we rejoined the trail and followed it on to Le Refrain.
Today was our first time in Switzerland and it certainly didn't disappoint. Green, lush landscapes, mountains all around, and the stunning Doubs Gorge accompanying us for much of the day. The trail was mostly downhill, following the River Doubs as it winds through this spectacular limestone gorge forming part of the natural border between France and Switzerland.
Tonight we're staying in a tiny chapel shelter tucked away in the gorge - an idyllic spot for the night. Even better, there was a food truck nearby, meaning cold drinks and hot food after a day on the trail!
Warm, but thankfully no longer boiling hot. A wonderful first day back on the Hexatrek. I'd really missed trail life.
