This scenic circular cycling route starts in the residential district of Cerrado del Calderón, east of Málaga, and climbs into the rolling hills overlooking the city. Combining quiet country roads, traditional Andalusian farmhouses, panoramic viewpoints, and rewarding descents, the ride offers an excellent escape from the urban area while providing spectacular views of Málaga and the Mediterranean Sea.

Leaving Cerrado del Calderón, the route begins with a steady climb into the Montes de Málaga. As the houses gradually give way to open countryside, the first stop is the Mirador de Málaga, where sweeping views open across the city, the harbour, and the Mediterranean coastline. It is an ideal place for a short break before continuing the ascent.

The route continues through increasingly rural landscapes towards Cortijo Marín, passing olive groves, almond trees, and traditional Andalusian farmland. The quiet roads and peaceful surroundings provide a striking contrast to the busy city below.

The next highlight is Lagar de Contreras, one of the historic country estates that reflects the area's long tradition of wine production. These traditional lagares were once used to press grapes for Málaga's famous sweet wines and remain an important reminder of the agricultural heritage of the Montes de Málaga.

Continuing along the ridge, the ride reaches the Mirador al San Antón, one of the finest viewpoints overlooking Málaga. From here, spectacular panoramic views extend across the city, the Mediterranean Sea, and the surrounding mountain ranges. On clear days, the coastline can be followed far along the Costa del Sol, making this one of the highlights of the entire route.

After enjoying the scenery, the route turns back towards Cerrado del Calderón, following a series of quiet roads and enjoyable descents through the hills. The return ride offers flowing bends, changing landscapes, and repeated views towards the coast before arriving back at the starting point.

Although the climbs require a reasonable level of fitness, the roads are generally in excellent condition and traffic is relatively light once beyond the residential areas. The combination of panoramic viewpoints, historic rural estates, and peaceful mountain scenery makes this circular ride an excellent choice for cyclists wishing to explore the beautiful hills above Málaga.
