The second stage is characterized by the mighty Mangart Pass (2,055 m), a road whose rock-hewn tunnels and cliff-edge curves lead to Slovenia’s highest paved point—remote, breathtaking, and unforgettable. The route then drops toward Italy via the Passo del Predil (1,156 m), a descent framed by alpine lakes and sheer rock faces. Re-entering Friuli (Alpi Giulie), the Passo Sella Nevea (1,195 m) offers a quieter rhythm with steady gradients and forest shade. After Moggio Udinese the stage unfolds through the lesser-known heart of Carnia (Alpi Carniche): the Sella Cereschiatis (1,066 m) marks the return to solitude, followed by the Passo del Cason di Lanza (1,552 m)—narrow, brutally steep, and spectacularly remote.
The second rest is in Paularo, a traditional mountain village famous for its "Mistirs" (ancient trades) and authentic Friulian hospitality.
