Ganz im äußersten Westen von Madeira liegt ein geologisches Wunder: der Aussichtspunkt Garganta Funda (Miradouro da Garganta Funda).

Die Schlucht, deren Name wörtlich übersetzt „Tiefer Schlund“ bedeutet, ist gewaltig und hufeisenförmig. Hier stürzt ein atemberaubender, 140 Meter hoher Wasserfall eine steile Felswand hinab in ein üppig grünes Tal, bevor er in den Atlantik mündet. Da sie am Ende einer ruhigen, von einem Wohngebiet umgebenen Straße liegt, ist sie ein wunderbarer Geheimtipp.
