513/500 km, Festive500 complete β ! We didn't get it as a present today, as it should be during the # Festive500 π (a challenge to cycle 500 km between Christmas and New Year's Eve). Temperatures just above zero π₯Ά, showers π§ and strong winds π¨ made it a tough ride. The program included the Slaaang (the XXL version of the WCDB ride the Slang), which meanders over the dikes along the Maas through three provinces: Brabant, Gelderland and Limburg. The weather was worse than predicted and we doubted what to do: take another route, shorten it or just drive and rain soaking wet. It was the last π π.The first showers blew over, but later we had to believe it. When it is cold and it rains, Maarten cycles faster so that was good for the average π. In Molenhoek we stopped at an oasis full of delicacies in lockdown time: a gas station π€©. The tank was filled again with a sandwich with chicken π (proteins), wafer πͺ (glucose) and coffee de (legal doping). In that phase we had 2 delays due to a flat tire. After the turning point in Gennep we started the way back with a headwind. Then we drove a kind of head over head, where I have to admit that I spent most of the ride with Maarten π€«. At Cuijk the rain blew in my face so that I could hardly see anything through my glasses. But we have been stoic in the knowledge that rain always blows over and strips of headwind alternate with strips of tailwind (or less strong headwind π).A few tough hours later we drove into Den Bosch to quietly paddle the last kilometers of the year along the canal. @Maarten thanks for the header and the fun during this lockdown # Festive500. And also thanks to Cor for yesterday's km's. Now: put your feet up π.
